Privacy policy

BELON Privacy Policy

BELON is made by Oyster Products LLC, a New York company doing business as BELON. This policy covers belon.com and the emails we send. It describes what information we collect, why, who sees it, and the controls you have. We wrote it ourselves and we mean it plainly: there is no data business hiding inside this water filter company.

The short version

  • We collect what we need to sell you a filter, ship it, and run the site — and not much else.
  • We do not sell your personal information for money. No lists, no brokers.
  • Like most online stores, we use analytics and advertising tools that share some browsing data with the platforms behind them. Some state laws call that “sharing” or a “sale.” You can switch it off in one click — see “Your Privacy Choices” in the footer.
  • Wherever you live, you can email us to see, correct, or delete what we have about you, and we will do it.

What we collect

Things you give us. Your name, email address, shipping address, phone number if you provide one, your order history, messages you send to support, reviews you post, and answers to anything we ask (like what city your water comes from, if you contact us about filter performance). If you create an account, Shopify stores your password in hashed form — we never see it.

Payment information. Payments are processed by Shopify Payments (all major credit and debit cards), Shop Pay, Apple Pay, Google Pay, and PayPal, which includes Venmo. Card numbers go directly to the payment processor. We never see or store them; we receive only a confirmation, the card type, and the last four digits.

Things collected automatically. When you browse belon.com: device and browser type, IP address, pages viewed, the site that referred you, and cookie or pixel identifiers. The Cookie Policy lists every tool behind this and how to turn each category off.

Things from others. Delivery status from our warehouse and shipping carriers, and aggregate campaign statistics from the analytics and advertising platforms below.

How we use it

To take your order, charge you correctly, ship to you, and help you when something goes wrong. To run filter subscriptions — including an email before each shipment charges, so nothing renews silently. To send marketing email you signed up for (every email has a working unsubscribe link, effective immediately). To understand which pages and products work, through analytics. To reach people likely to want a BELON through advertising platforms. To prevent fraud, keep records the tax authorities require, and comply with law.

Who we share it with

Service providers who do a job for us, and who get only what that job requires:

  • Shopify — runs the store, hosting, checkout, and accounts.
  • Klaviyo — sends our email; stores your email address, signup source, and order events.
  • Our fulfillment warehouse (Edison, NJ) and shipping carriers — name and address, to pack and deliver.
  • Payment processors — to charge you.
  • Analytics — Google Analytics and Shopify's built-in analytics.
  • Advertising — Meta, Google, and TikTok, via their pixels, as described in the next section.

We also disclose information if the law properly requires it (for example, a valid subpoena), and if BELON is ever acquired or merged, customer records would transfer with the business — with notice to you.

We do not sell your personal information for money, and we do not share it with data brokers.

Advertising, “sharing,” and your opt-out

Here is the honest description of the one genuinely two-sided practice on this site. Advertising pixels from Meta, Google, and TikTok let those platforms recognize that a browser visited belon.com, so we can show ads to likely customers and measure whether ads worked. Several state privacy laws treat this as “sharing” personal information, or even as a “sale,” whether or not money changes hands. It is the only thing we do that those words apply to.

You can turn it off. Click “Your Privacy Choices” in the footer of belon.com and opt out; it takes effect immediately on that browser. We also honor the Global Privacy Control — if your browser sends a GPC signal, we treat it as a valid opt-out of ad sharing automatically. Some browsers offer an older “Do Not Track” setting; because no common standard for it was ever adopted, belon.com does not respond to Do Not Track signals, but GPC does the same job and we do honor that.

Opting out doesn't affect your cart, checkout, or subscription — you'll just see less relevant ads.

Your rights — wherever you live

Some states give their residents specific legal privacy rights. Rather than run a residency check, we extend the same rights to everyone: email support@belon.com and you can

  • get a copy of the personal information we hold about you,
  • correct it,
  • delete it (we keep what tax and accounting law obliges us to keep, and nothing more),
  • opt out of advertising “sharing” (same effect as the footer link), and
  • unsubscribe from marketing email.

We will confirm your identity by matching the email address on your order or signup, answer within 45 days (usually much faster), and never charge for it or treat you worse for asking. If we decline a request — for example, deletion of records we must legally retain — we'll say exactly why, and you can reply to appeal to us; residents of states with appeal rights can also contact their state attorney general. California residents may send requests through an authorized agent, and may exercise these rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act to the extent it applies; residents of Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Texas, and other states with comprehensive privacy laws have equivalent routes.

How long we keep things

Order and payment records: as long as tax and accounting law requires (generally seven years). Marketing email data: until you unsubscribe, plus a suppression record so we don't accidentally re-add you. Support conversations: as long as they're useful for helping you. Analytics: configured to the shortest practical retention the tools allow. When information stops being needed, it gets deleted, not warehoused.

Security

belon.com runs on Shopify's infrastructure with TLS encryption throughout, and access to customer records is limited to the founder and the service providers listed above. No system is perfect; if a breach ever affects your information, we will notify you as the law requires — and sooner if we can.

Children

belon.com is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their information. Purchases require you to be 18. If you believe a child has given us personal information, email support@belon.com and we will delete it.

Visiting from outside the United States

belon.com is operated from the United States and currently ships only within the United States, and this site is not directed to residents of other countries. If you browse or sign up from elsewhere, your information is processed in the US. When we open shipping to the EU or other regions, this policy will get a proper regional annex first — not after.

Changes

When this policy changes, we will update the date at the top, describe the change in the log below, and — for material changes — email customers and subscribers before the change takes effect. We will never announce a change by silently editing this page.
